Cyberbullying, the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, hate speech and gender-based violence online will take centre stage at the international conference “Digital is real: the violence that travels through social media,” organised by the Equal Opportunities Authority of the Republic of San Marino on Friday, 23 October, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kursaal Congress Centre.
The event examines how digital behaviour affects people’s lives and explores tools for recognising abuse, preventing it, and supporting victims.
Among the speakers is Maria-Andriani Kostopoulou, president of GREVIO, the group of experts monitoring implementation of the Istanbul Convention, who will address digital violence against women. Bertil Cottier, president of ECRI, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, will explore online hate speech and the Council of Europe’s response to it.
The programme also features contributions from psychologist and psychotherapist Gregorio Mazzonis and Diego Buratta, a trainer with the Carolina Foundation, which works to prevent bullying and cyberbullying.
In the afternoon, a round table titled “Voices in dialogue: an intergenerational conversation”, introduced by Cottier and moderated by journalist Giovanna Bartolucci, will bring together experts and students from the Vocational Training Centre, the Secondary School, and the University of San Marino.
Closing the day’s discussions will be Antonella Brighi, full professor and dean of the Faculty of Education at the Free University of Bolzano, who will speak on online gender-based violence, cyberbullying and revenge porn.
Participation is free, but registration is required. For more information, contact the organising secretariat at segreteria@trends.srl.
