Violence against women: University of San Marino joins RAI and San Marino RTV on TV

The University contributes academic expertise to a new nine-part series tackling gender-based violence, airing weekly on San Marino RTV.

Explaining violence against women and gender-based violence, recognizing its many forms and raising awareness of support networks available to victims. This is the contribution of the University of San Marino to “Nessun segno addosso” (“No mark left behind”), a program produced by RAI and San Marino RTV, hosted by Vittoriana Abate and airing on the Sammarinese broadcaster every Monday at 6:40 p.m. starting October 5th. The series comprises nine episodes, with the University’s Department of Human Sciences involved in shaping the content — from selecting topics and guests to overseeing scientific accuracy.

“We have the opportunity to enter people’s homes and help them understand, steering clear of stereotypes and relying instead on academic research and the expertise and sensitivity present in our community, what violence against women and gender-based violence actually is, what is being done about it, what more can be done, and what support networks exist, among other things. Because despite the progress made, part of this phenomenon still lies hidden in a broad sphere of invisibility — cases concealed in the shadows.” This is how Arianna Taddei, director of the Department of Human Sciences and one of the program’s curators alongside Maria Elena D’Amelio, a lecturer at the University of San Marino, explains the project.

Each episode explores the theme through a variety of disciplines, pairing academic insight with the firsthand experience of those working in the field. “In every episode,” explains Taddei, who developed the project together with Maria Elena D’Amelio, “the subject is examined through different lenses — legal, sociological, media and communication-related, educational, psychological, and financial independence, among others. Each episode opens with a theoretical introduction curated by experts from the universities of San Marino, Bologna, Urbino, Macerata and Ferrara, followed by contributions from local organizations working in this field, including the Authority for Equal Opportunities, as well as professionals from the education sector and beyond.”

For the University, taking part in the program is also part of its broader commitment to public awareness. “Our mission is not only to educate, but also to raise awareness,” Taddei concludes. “We do this by providing information that is reliable, up to date, and carefully considered.”
