Giochi del Titano row: opposition takes transparency complaints to Captains Regent

Repubblica Futura, Domani Motus Liberi and Rete accuse the government of excessive secrecy over the state-owned gaming company and key political dossiers.

The Giochi del Titano case has landed on the desk of the Captains Regent. Repubblica Futura, Domani Motus Liberi and Rete are demanding greater transparency from the government, which they accuse of leaving the opposition in the dark on matters of critical importance for the Republic’s future.

The three parties met with the Regency to voice their concerns, which they later reiterated at a press conference. As reported by San Marino RTV, the complaints centre not only on the investigation into the state-owned company but also on the growing recourse to secrecy in handling key political and economic dossiers.

The most pressing issue concerns Giochi del Titano, a company wholly owned by the state, which represents a significant source of revenue for public coffers and employs around a hundred people.

Nicola Renzi of Repubblica Futura drew attention to the risks a new scandal could pose for the country. While reaffirming a position of due process towards those involved in the investigation, he asked the government to clarify what steps it intends to take to protect the company, its workers and their families.

Gaetano Troina of Domani Motus Liberi also weighed in on the political handling of the matter, criticising the majority’s approach. According to Troina, the executive is tackling the most important issues without adequately involving the minorities, who are effectively being reduced to mere spectators of the decisions being made.

Emanuele Santi of Rete, meanwhile, drew attention to past precedents. In his view, certain critical situations within Giochi del Titano had already been known since 2023 and had even been addressed through hearings before the anti-mafia commission.

Despite this, Santi argued, the government failed to adopt adequate measures. Indeed, a recent decree is said to have moved in the opposite direction from the greater caution deemed necessary.

But the opposition’s complaints do not stop at the gaming company.

Also under fire is the recourse to secret sessions, particularly when dealing with matters of public interest such as the banking system, strategic projects for the country, and the management of non-performing loans (NPLs).

According to Repubblica Futura, Domani Motus Liberi and Rete, this approach limits the work of councillors and reduces the information available to citizens, preventing public debate on decisions that could have significant consequences for San Marino.

The three political forces also fear that the handling of the most sensitive matters could cause further damage to the Republic’s international reputation, already marked, in their view, by several controversial cases in recent years.

Hence the decision to approach the Captains Regent directly, calling for a change of course in the flow of information and greater involvement of the minorities in decisions affecting the country’s future.
