The conference room of the Secretariat of State for Tourism now bears the name of Mauro Maiani. The plaque was unveiled by the Captains Regent Alice Mina and Vladimiro Selva, together with the Secretary of State for Tourism, Post Office, Cooperation, EXPO, Information and Investment Attraction, Federico Pedini Amati.
Among the family members, friends and colleagues gathered before the plaque was Maiani’s father, Mr. Lino Maiani, aged 101. Also present at the ceremony were the Secretary of State for Internal Affairs Andrea Belluzzi and EXPO Commissioner Filippo Francini, who took over Maiani’s role.
Mauro Maiani’s résumé speaks for itself: for years he served as the focal point for the Republic of San Marino at the United Nations World Tourism Organization, and he held the roles of Ambassador and Commissioner General for several editions of the World Expo. A tourism expert and a man deeply rooted in the country’s institutions, he was known well beyond San Marino’s borders.
In his remarks, Pedini Amati explained why this particular room was chosen for the tribute. “Naming the conference room of the Secretariat of State for Tourism after Mauro Maiani is not simply about remembering who he was,” he said. “It means entrusting his name to the people who will come through here, to the ideas that will be born here, to the projects that will take shape here. It means remembering Mauro in the very place where people meet, where relationships are built, and where we talk about tourism and San Marino’s image in the world.” He concluded: “In a way, it means allowing Mauro to keep working for San Marino.”
The ceremony took place as part of World Tourism Day, marked by the United Nations on 27 September.
