San Marino’s long-awaited student residence finally has an address. During the communications item in Commission IV, the Secretary of State for Territory and Environment, Agriculture, Civil Protection and Relations with the A.A.S.L.P., Matteo Ciacci, identified the acquisition of the former Excelsior building in the City as a top priority, with plans for 24 rooms for university students.
Ciacci defended his approach as one geared toward the concrete delivery of public works, and set two further deadlines: the completion of the Malagola staircase and the Baldasserona car park by 2027.
His response came, however, after a pointed attack from the opposition, which criticised the lack of an overall strategy for public works and the deteriorating condition of several buildings, including the former Musical Institute in Borgo, the Cinema Turismo, the Malagola staircase, the Nido del Falco and the Kursaal.
The debate also touched on the housing emergency and rising fuel prices, with calls for more decisive action and for higher SMaC discounts for residents and workers.
Once the communications item was exhausted, the Commission moved on to the main business of the day with the hearing of the ISS Executive Committee, which is set to continue in the afternoon session.
