Michele Callini finished third at the Memorial Andrea Nekoofar in Ostia, in the men’s kumite up to 60 kilograms category. A podium finish that comes at just the right time for the captain of San Marino’s national karate team.
In Ostia, Callini competed for Ciudan Karate Montefeltro, the club from the Marche region with which he pursues his competitive career in Italy, coached ringside by master and coach Francesco Alessandroni. The competition was organised by the Italian Judo, Wrestling, Karate and Martial Arts Federation in collaboration with CSEN.
The result matters above all for what comes next. In early October, the European Karate Championship of Small States is scheduled to take place in Malta — the event in which San Marino’s blue-and-white movement measures itself against nations of similar size. At the last edition, San Marino returned home with eight medals.
