Three podium finishes for the blue-and-white colours at the 13th edition of the San Marino Cup, the international rhythmic gymnastics tournament hosted at the Multieventi Sports Hall. A total of 240 athletes took part, five of them from San Marino, representing ten nations: alongside San Marino, Italy and South Korea, also Austria, Cyprus, Germany, Lithuania, Slovenia, Switzerland and Ukraine.
In the senior category, open to gymnasts born in 2010 or earlier, the spotlight fell on Emma Fratti, who claimed silver in ribbon and bronze in ball, an apparatus in which Camilla Rossi also finished fifth. Margherita Fucci topped both events, going on to win the all-around ahead of Carol Michelotti and Alice Taglietti. Fratti finished sixth in the overall standings, with Eva Bombagioni and Rossi twelfth and thirteenth respectively.
In the junior category, the medal belonged to Sara Ceccoli, who took silver in hoop, finishing behind only South Korea’s Woo Seunga. Ceccoli also placed fourth in ribbon, narrowly missing the podium, and sixth in the all-around, where gold once again went to South Korea’s Lee Chaemin, ahead of Ludovica Ajello and Aurora Broni. San Marino’s other junior representative, Ludovica Vannoni, finished fourteenth overall.
Beyond the results, the president of the San Marino Gymnastics Federation, Fabrizio Castiglioni, pointed to the growth of the sport in the Republic. “We’ve grown, and now we’ve expanded across every sector,” he explained. “We have five international judges, several top-tier coaches by Italian standards, and a growing number of rhythmic gymnasts. What’s more, when it comes to artistic gymnastics, we’ve found Sammarinese athletes training abroad as well.”
