Marco Tura, president of the San Marino Football Federation (Federcalcio), has been acquitted on the grounds that no offence occurred, in the proceedings linked to the death of Leo Tabarrini in February 2022. The ruling was handed down by Law Commissioner Antonella Volpinari, as reported by the newspaper “L’Informazione”.
The accident took place on 4 February 2022. Tabarrini died after falling from a ladder while working inside the locker room of the Dogana sports field. The case had brought Tura to trial over responsibility for the fatal workplace accident.
The federation president’s defence, led by lawyers Aldo Meyer and Simone Menghini, had sought acquittal, arguing that at the time of the accident Tabarrini had been working as an external contractor. This position was also supported by the request of the State Prosecutor’s Office (Procura del Fisco), which itself had called for a full acquittal.
During the proceedings, the defence also pointed out that the federation had nonetheless taken steps to compensate for the damage, even without acknowledging any responsibility for what had happened. The trial has now concluded with Tura’s acquittal under the formula “because the fact does not constitute an offence”.
