San Marino’s recognition of Palestine does not close the door on a political process, but rather aims to help make a two-state solution possible. That was the message delivered by Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari in New York, during a ministerial meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Beccari pointed to the worsening situation on the ground and stressed the need to involve societies, not just governments, in building peace.
On the same day, the secretary took part in the United for Consensus meeting on Security Council reform. San Marino backs a more representative and accountable body, without new permanent seats assigned to individual countries, and is calling for negotiations to continue in search of a shared agreement.
On the diplomatic front, Beccari signed an agreement with Minister Sean Sobers to establish diplomatic relations with Trinidad and Tobago. He also met with the foreign ministers of Cyprus and Singapore and took part in a discussion with Andorra and Monaco on how small states relate to the European Union.
