A visit that has gone down in the history of San Marino, yet prepared in just three months of intense work. At Palazzo Valloni, the Captains Regent gathered and thanked the people who contributed to organizing the pastoral visit of Pope Leo XIV, an event that required coordinating a complex operation.
Behind the Pontiff’s arrival lay a system that brought together institutions, diplomacy, law enforcement, military corps, Civil Protection, state-owned companies, volunteers and the ecclesiastical world. Much of this work took place away from the cameras, yet it was essential to managing every aspect of the day, from security to transport to services.
A central role was played by Sammarinese diplomacy, with Ambassador to the Holy See Alessandra Albertini and Head of Protocol Silvia Berti, alongside the Secretariat of State, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Institutional Secretariat. On the religious side, cooperation with the Diocese of San Marino-Montefeltro also proved essential.
Foreign Affairs Secretary Luca Beccari highlighted, above all, the Sammarinese system’s ability to work in a coordinated manner, bringing together different skills and responsibilities within a particularly tight timeframe.
Communication was also a key piece of the organization. San Marino RTV broadcast the visit live, allowing images of the day to travel beyond the Republic’s borders. Beccari stressed the importance of pairing the successful staging of an event of this scale with the ability to tell its story to the outside world.
The gathering at Palazzo Valloni thus became a recognition of the collective effort that made Pope Leo XIV’s visit possible — from diplomatic preparation to on-the-ground management of a day destined to remain etched in the Republic’s recent history.
