«A historic day for San Marino». This is how Alleanza Riformista described Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Titano, focusing in particular on the meaning the Pontiff attributed to Libertas, a symbol deeply tied to the Republic’s history.
According to Alleanza Riformista, the words spoken by the Pope in the Hall of the Grand and General Council (Consiglio Grande e Generale) represent a direct message to politics as well. Leo XIV recalled that freedom means far more than mere self-determination, finding its fullest expression in giving, communion, encounter and dialogue. «Freedom», the movement stresses, «is not a privilege, but a responsibility».
The statement also highlights the passage in which San Marino was described as a possible “laboratory of good politics”, a place to experiment with a more effective democracy centred on the common good, subsidiarity, solidarity and social justice. According to Alleanza Riformista, this recognition represents above all a responsibility for those called to lead the country.
The movement also links the Pontiff’s message to the words of Italian President Sergio Mattarella, with his appeal for peace, international law and the rejection of the “law of the strongest”. «Dialogue and responsibility must once again become fundamental tools of politics», Alleanza Riformista notes.
Libertas, the statement concludes, should therefore not be seen merely as an inheritance from history, but as something to be built every day through the choices made by the Republic.
Alleanza Riformista finally extended its thanks to the institutional bodies, organisers, volunteers and technicians who worked on the visit, with particular gratitude to the law enforcement forces and Civil Protection for their work ensuring security and managing the event.
