Two days have been set aside for the collection of passes for Pope Leo XIV’s visit to San Marino. The Secretariat of State for Foreign Affairs has announced how those who already booked their accreditation through IOL (gov.sm), the Castle Councils (Giunte di Castello) or the Diocese can collect their passes.
Distribution will take place on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 August, with a generous time window available. “Collection will be possible on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 August 2026, from 10:00 am to 9:30 pm, at the single Accreditation Centre set up inside the meeting hall of the Castle Council of Borgo Maggiore (Piazza Mercatale, 21, 47893 Borgo Maggiore)” – the statement reads.
To collect a pass, applicants will need to present a valid identity document. Collecting a pass on behalf of others will only be permitted within the same family unit. “Each person may collect their own Pass and only that of their family members (parents, spouse, children, brothers and sisters)” – the Secretariat of State specifies.
Particular attention is drawn to the access procedures on the day of the visit. Simply having made a booking will not be enough to enter Piazza della Libertà and Piazzale Domus Plebis.
“The Secretariat of State reminds everyone that, in order to access Piazza della Libertà and Piazzale Domus Plebis, it will be essential to have the personal Pass in paper form, which must be shown together with an identity document” – the note states.
The Secretariat therefore urges those who have obtained accreditation to respect the indicated collection days. Failure to collect the pass will result in being unable to access Piazza della Libertà during the Pontiff’s visit.
“All those who have submitted a request are therefore recommended to collect their Pass on the days and at the times indicated. Failure to collect the Pass will result in the impossibility of accessing Piazza della Libertà” – the statement stresses.
Finally, at the time of collection, information on parking and shuttle services organised for Pope Leo XIV’s visit will also be provided.
