The Youth Policy Commission of the Republic of San Marino (Commissione per le Politiche Giovanili) has welcomed confirmation of the imminent approval of the bill introducing changes to legislation on family, maternity and the birth rate.
According to the Commission, the attention devoted to the measure in recent weeks by institutions, trade unions and civil society confirms how central the issue is to the country’s future. Family policies, in fact, are closely linked to youth policies, since the conditions in which new generations live directly affect their ability to start a family.
The Commission stresses that the decision to become a parent begins long before a child is born. Job stability, professional opportunities, access to housing, efficient services and confidence in the future are all decisive factors in enabling a young person to choose to build their life project within the Republic.
For this reason, measures supporting maternity, paternity and parenthood are seen as an important step, which must nonetheless be part of a broader strategy dedicated to the autonomy of new generations.
“We believe it is essential to keep investing in policies that strengthen the link between young people, work, housing, education and family,” the Commission notes, stressing that addressing these issues in an integrated way can help build a stronger community, better prepared to face the challenges of the coming years.
The Commission also confirms its willingness to take part in this process through listening sessions and dialogue with young people, with the aim of turning their needs and expectations into concrete proposals to submit to the institutions.
“Investing in families means investing in trust,” the Commission concludes. A trust that is essential if young people are to choose to stay, work and plan their future in San Marino, while also helping to tackle the Republic’s demographic, social and economic challenges.
