A night of fear in Villa Verucchio, where at around 4am a gang of robbers targeted the ATM at the Banca Malatestiana branch on Via Tenuta Amalia. The raid was carried out using explosives, producing a blast heard throughout the area.
According to initial reports, the criminals forced their way into the branch’s entrance before blowing up the cash machine. The explosion caused serious damage inside the bank, located on the ground floor of a residential building, jolting local residents awake.
The gang, made up of three or four people with their faces covered, then fled with the cash taken from the machine. The value of the haul has not yet been determined.
To cover their escape, those responsible reportedly scattered tripod-style spike nails along the Marecchiese road, puncturing the tyres of several passing vehicles and causing traffic disruption.
Firefighters were called to the scene and secured the area, while the Carabinieri are handling forensic work and the investigation. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering all available evidence in an effort to identify those responsible for the attack.
