The final fixture of the two-year cycle for San Marino’s Under 21 side comes tomorrow evening away to Cyprus, closing out their campaign in the European Championship qualifiers for the category. The blue-and-whites arrived in Larnaca last night, where they will take the field at the AEK Arena at 8pm local time, 7pm in San Marino.
The goal is clear: try to close out the campaign with a positive result and draw level with Cyprus in the standings, leaving behind last place. Head coach Matteo Cecchetti isn’t mincing words: “I told the boys we have to aim to win. We want to catch up with Cyprus in the table and get off the bottom spot. We know we’re facing a strong side, as they showed in the first leg at the Stadium.”
The coach wants to see on the pitch the progress made over the two-year cycle: “In between we played a lot of matches that helped us grow. Tomorrow we need to show that we’ve closed that gap with them.”
There’s also another target: finding the net again in the qualifiers, something that hasn’t happened since 10 September 2024, when San Marino scored against Turkey. In recent outings the Titans have created more and come close to scoring on several occasions.
“I see the boys confident and determined to reach the goal. This will be our last chance to score,” Cecchetti adds. “The squad has recovered and is in good shape, I’m confident they’ll all put in a great performance.”
Cyprus-San Marino will be broadcast live on Titani.tv, with viewing available in San Marino and Italy.
