SAN MARINO – Alessandra Perilli has won bronze in trap shooting, delivering San Marino’s fourth medal at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto 2026. The Sammarinese shooter took the third step of the podium in the women’s individual event, capping off a competition that began with a difficult qualifying round before a strong comeback carried her all the way to the final.
At the Torricella range, Perilli had to go through a shoot-off to keep her hopes alive of reaching the top eight. Having qualified with the sixth-best score, she found another gear in the decisive phase, hitting every target without a miss and climbing all the way up to third place.
Her competition ended on a score of 22 clays, a result that allowed her to finish ahead of Spain’s Mar Molne Magrina, fourth with 14, and Italy’s Silvana Maria Stanco, fifth with 11. Victory went to Turkey’s Safiye Temizdemir, who had also topped qualifying with 118 clays, ahead of Italy’s Erica Sessa.
This marks San Marino’s fourth medal in Taranto, following two golds and a bronze in bocce. For Perilli, an Olympic medallist in Tokyo, it is her third individual podium finish at the Mediterranean Games, after bronze in Pescara in 2009 and gold in Tarragona in 2018.
Among those on hand to celebrate with the shooter were Captains Regent Alice Mina and Vladimiro Selva, the Secretary of State for Sport Rossano Fabbri, CONS president Christian Forcellini, secretary general Eros Bologna, and national coach Luca Di Mari.
Also competing in the women’s event was Martina Tonini, who finished qualifying with 102 clays. In the men’s competition, Gian Marco Berti was forced to withdraw during the fourth series after feeling unwell due to the intense heat, just as he was clawing back positions. Simone Rigoni completed qualifying with 101 clays. The mixed team event is scheduled for Thursday.
It was also a busy day of competition in other disciplines. In finswimming, making its official debut on the Mediterranean Games programme, Sofia Fratti wrote a small piece of history for San Marino by taking part in the 50m apnea heats. At the Torre d’Ayala Swimming Stadium, she stopped the clock at 19.59 seconds, finishing 11th overall. She will return to the pool for the 100m surface event, while Camilla Sansovini will compete in the 100m bi-fins.
In shooting, at the Palazzetto Albano, Agata Alina Riccardi totalled 609.6 points in the women’s 10m air rifle qualifying round, finishing 23rd and missing out on the final. The next Sammarinese athlete in action will be Marco Gasperoni, competing in the 10m pistol event.
There were also first outings in archery for Giorgia Cesarini and Kristina Pruccoli. In the 72-arrow qualifying round of the Olympic recurve event, Cesarini placed 20th with 564 points, just ahead of Pruccoli, who finished on 561. In the round of 32, they will face Greece’s Maria Nasoula and Turkey’s Gizem Ozkan respectively.
Finally, in table tennis, San Marino’s team campaign came to an end in the round of 16, losing 3-0 to Turkey. Lorenzo Ragni was defeated 3-0 by Gunduz, while Mattias Mongiusti pushed Yilmaz to a fifth set before losing 2-3. In the doubles, the pairing of Mongiusti and Ragni went down 3-0, with two sets decided at deuce.
