There is no rift between Italy and the United States, but rather an ongoing dialogue between allies on security matters and international crises. That was the message reiterated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, speaking at the Rimini Meeting.
“There has been no rift with the US,” Tajani explained, stressing that the transatlantic relationship remains a cornerstone of Western security. “Our relationship with the United States goes beyond individual presidents,” he added, underlining the solidity of the political, economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
On the sidelines of the Meeting, the minister also addressed the issue of windfall profits, dismissing the prospect of new taxes. “I am firmly opposed to any hypothesis of a windfall profits tax,” he stated, while leaving open the possibility of discussions with energy companies to explore voluntary, agreed-upon contributions.
During a session dedicated to Lebanon, Tajani also drew attention to the Christian presence in the Middle East, describing it as a key factor for dialogue and stability. “We must defend the presence of Christians in the Middle East,” he said, because “they are a guarantee of dialogue and peace.”
