Three athletes from Taekwondo San Marino are set to return to the international mat. From 4 to 6 September, Alessandro Giovagnoli, Federico Amati and Achille Tentoni will compete at the 2nd Swiss Open Kyorugi 2026, held at the Athletik Zentrum in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
For the young Sammarinese athletes, preparation has barely paused all summer. “Summer has just ended, but for the Taekwondo San Marino athletes there has effectively been no break at all, as they kept training even through scorching temperatures in preparation for the new competitive season,” reads the club’s statement.
The Swiss event follows the Taekwondo San Marino Open, held on the last weekend of June and closed out by the home team with 10 medals. The competition drew around 500 athletes from Italy, Austria, Slovenia and San Marino, competing across four fighting areas.
Attention now turns to the Swiss Open, organised by Swiss Taekwondo in partnership with World Taekwondo and the European Taekwondo Union. The event will unfold over three days: 4 and 5 September will see the Swiss Open E-2, reserved for cadets and juniors and valid for the European ranking, while 6 September will be dedicated to seniors at the Swiss Open G-1, with World Taekwondo ranking points at stake.
Representing San Marino will be three young athletes, coached from the corner by second national coach Michele Ceccaroni, 4th dan.
Particularly anticipated is the return of Alessandro Giovagnoli, 1st dan, who will compete in the junior -78 kg category. The athlete is back in official competition after more than four months out due to an eye injury, a setback that had kept him from taking part in the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto despite holding the Italian title.
Also competing will be the two seniors Federico Amati, 1st dan in the -63 kg category, and Achille Tentoni, 1st dan in the -58 kg category. The pair, the club notes, will face off against “some of the strongest athletes on the continent.”
“These are the opportunities that Taekwondo offers to all athletes who commit themselves and want to test their abilities, both on the Italian national stage and internationally,” continues the statement, signed by master and FE.SA.T. president Giovanni Ugolini.
Alongside the competitive activity, September will also see the restart of Taekwondo courses in San Marino, open to children, amateur adults and competitive athletes. Sessions will take place in the gyms of Fonte dell’Ovo, at the Centro Studi in the City, and at Sport Domus in Serravalle.
Sammarinese Taekwondo will also be present at Sport in Fiera 2026, on 18, 19 and 23 September, with a dedicated space where visitors can discover and try the sport alongside the Federation’s instructors.
