Air conditioning units in San Marino’s schools to cope with summer temperatures that families say have become increasingly difficult to bear. That is the demand at the heart of a signature-collection campaign promoted by a group of parents, relatives and Sammarinese citizens.
The initiative concerns schools of every level across the Republic, with particular attention to the periods when the buildings continue to be used for state-run summer camps.
“The situation, especially during June, July, August and September, is unbearable,” the promoters argue, stressing that the problem affects not only children and young people but also teachers, staff and other school workers.
Families point out that, to cope with the hottest days, water games and activities with small paddling pools are sometimes organised — solutions considered insufficient, however, because they are sporadic and also constrained by water shortages.
According to the promoters, as the years go by and temperatures continue to rise, installing air conditioning systems has become a necessary investment to improve conditions inside school buildings.
The signature drive will begin on Monday, 31 August, and run until Friday, 18 September. Residents can sign at “Il Forno” in Cailungo and the “Parafarmacia Bucci” in Gualdicciolo. Any adult may sign — Sammarinese or not, residents and non-residents alike.
