A car breakdown in the dead of night had given them away. Nearly four years later, a verdict has finally been reached in the case of a series of thefts and acts of vandalism carried out in December 2022 between Borgo Maggiore and Ventoso, San Marino.
The judicial outcome includes three convictions, one plea bargain and one acquittal. Sentences ranged from 5 months and 19 days to 2 years and 8 months in prison, while one defendant accepted a plea deal of one year and 10 months.
The sole woman in the group, now 48, was acquitted; she was represented by lawyer Enrico Graziosi. For two young men who were 17 at the time, the Prosecutor’s Office (Procura del Fisco) requested acquittal on grounds of non-accountability due to age.
On the night of 14 December 2022, seven residents of the Rimini area came under investigation for a series of raids targeting cars and garages.
The group was caught out when one of their vehicles broke down in Borgo Maggiore. The intervention of the Gendarmerie and Civil Police led to the detention of six people. During the checks, officers also found burglary tools and a nail gun.
