Fire between houses in Poggio Torriana, 46-year-old woman arrested: allegedly started blaze with LPG

Carabinieri caught the woman on camera setting fire to a neighbour's hedge with a can of LPG, threatening parked cars before firefighters intervened.

A can of LPG and a neighbour’s hedge set ablaze. That is what is believed to have happened yesterday afternoon in Poggio Torriana, where a 46-year-old woman was arrested in the act by Verucchio carabinieri following a fire that broke out between two semi-detached houses.

The blaze destroyed the fence dividing the two properties, coming close to threatening cars parked in the driveway. The swift intervention of the fire brigade allowed the flames to be quickly contained, preventing them from reaching the vehicles, including a diesel-powered car.

When carabinieri arrived at the scene, the owners of the neighbouring house handed investigators footage from their surveillance cameras. The images allegedly show the 46-year-old setting fire to the hedge.

Confronted by officers, the woman is said to have initially denied responsibility for the fire. Faced with the evidence gathered, she reportedly offered a brief explanation for her actions: “I’m at my wit’s end.”

The 46-year-old, represented by lawyer Piero Venturi, allegedly has a history of previous complaints for threats, exploitation of vulnerable people, animal cruelty and personal injury. Following the investigation, she was placed under arrest in the act.
