San Marino is eyeing two new photovoltaic investments in Italy. According to San Marino RTV, the board of directors of Aass has admitted to the in-depth review phase two projects submitted by IEIS Greenpower, concerning plants located in Pesaro and Terranuova Bracciolini, in the province of Arezzo.
The decision, contained in the resolution of 12 August, now opens the way to competitive dialogue and a technical, economic and financial assessment of the two operations. This does not yet amount to a purchase: Aass will evaluate the viability of the investments before making a final decision.
The projects stem from the tender published by the utility in May, which allows for investments of up to €15 million per plant. The strategy focuses mainly on facilities that are already authorised and ready to become operational, with the aim of achieving full operation by the end of 2026.
As San Marino RTV notes, the Titano has already taken this path with the photovoltaic park in Visano, in the province of Brescia, which has a capacity of over 9 megawatts peak and could potentially cover around 6-8% of San Marino’s electricity needs.
Aass’s strategy is to increase production from renewable sources and expand storage capacity, progressively reducing San Marino’s dependence on external energy supplies.
