For more than a week there has been no news of Gian Gavino Chessa, the 56-year-old man who went missing on October 8 in the hills of Mulazzano, in the municipality of Coriano. After three days of fruitless searching, rescue operations have been suspended.
The man, an employee of a local farming business, had been dropped off near his home — an isolated farmhouse reachable only via a rough, unpaved road. According to reconstructions, however, he never made it home. From that point on, all trace of him was lost.
The missing person’s report was filed on Wednesday with the Carabinieri in Coriano, triggering a search effort coordinated by the Prefecture of Rimini.
For three days the area was searched inch by inch. Fourteen firefighters took part, along with drone specialists brought in from Macerata, canine units, cartography experts, and volunteers from Civil Protection and Alpine Rescue teams.
Rescuers first checked the surroundings of the farmhouse, then moved on to the hills nearby, including the most rugged and hard-to-reach areas.
Still, no sign of the 56-year-old has been found. The search has yielded no clues as to what may have happened, and with more than a week having passed since his disappearance, concern for the man’s fate continues to grow.
