Some Rallylegend spectators reported to Insider.sm that it was impossible to pay by card at the cash desks at the entrance to the special stages, where only cash is accepted.
Contacted by Insider.sm’s editorial team, Paolo Valli, the event’s organiser, clarified that the three cash desks at the Village are all equipped with working card terminals, while the external stations are not.
“The three cash desks in the Village area all have working POS terminals.
The situation is different for the temporary cash desks at the entrances to the special stages, which are sometimes located in fairly remote areas, where the connection isn’t always reliable.
We’ve already run into these difficulties in the past: in some of the more isolated parts of San Marino’s territory, for example, the card reader simply didn’t work.
That’s why we’ve kept cash-only payment at the external cash desks.
There’s also an organisational issue.
These stations are run by young people who work for two or three days and have to move around according to the event’s schedule: one stage today, another tomorrow.
Fully equipping all of them is complicated.
So at the external cash desks, there are no card readers.
I understand the inconvenience: visitors coming from Italy are used to paying by card and expect to find that option everywhere, even though that’s not always the case even there.
In San Marino, however, there’s no law requiring businesses to have a card terminal: cash-only payment is allowed, and that’s the approach we use at the external stations.
The reasons are logistical and mainly concern the connectivity problems we’ve already encountered.
At the Village, the card readers are there and working; at the temporary cash desks for the stages, however, payment is in cash”.
