San Marino, Akida vanishes after gun salutes at investiture ceremony: appeal to find her

A 23-year-old San Marino resident is pleading for help to find her dog, missing since fleeing the Captains Regent's ceremony gunfire on 1 October.

For eight days now she has been searching for her little dog, still without any firm news. Valentina Carrara, a 23-year-old San Marino citizen, is making an appeal to find Akida, who went missing on 1 October in the City of San Marino. According to her owner’s account, the dog fled in fear from the gun salutes fired during the investiture ceremony of the Captains Regent.

“For eight days we have been searching non-stop, with the help of volunteers, scent-tracking dogs, Civil Protection and thermal drones. Despite extensive searches, we still have no news of her,” Carrara writes in her appeal to local newsrooms.

Akida is 7 years old and a medium-sized mixed-breed dog, described by her owner as sweet but very wary and timid. The search efforts also extend to areas far from where she disappeared.

“She may have travelled far from the place where she went missing. We received a possible sighting report from the Faetano area, which however has not been confirmed,” Carrara explains.

The young woman describes the bond she shares with her dog: “Akida is my therapy dog, she has been by my side since she was a puppy and has supported me through the most difficult moments of my life. She is part of my family, and I am doing everything I can to bring her home.”

She is asking for the appeal to be shared throughout San Marino and the surrounding areas, via newspapers, radio and social media, in the hope of reaching anyone who may have seen her. Carrara has made photographs, a poster and other useful information available for the search.

If Akida is spotted, people are urged not to chase her, but to immediately report the location to her owner. “If anyone sees her, please don’t chase her — just contact me right away and let me know where she is.”

Anyone with information can call Valentina Carrara at 334 9360522.
