Jessica Moretti has requested daily compensation for loss of earnings linked to the health consequences she suffered as a result of the fire at the Constellation club in Crans-Montana. The owner of the venue, among the main suspects in the investigation into the New Year’s blaze, could in fact fall under the protections provided by Swiss legislation on workplace injuries.
The request emerged from an exchange of communications between Zurich Insurance and the Valais Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office. The insurer asked magistrates for clearance to potentially pay out the compensation, and received the green light. The matter is now being reviewed by the company.
The fire claimed the lives of 41 people, including six Italians, while another 115 were injured. Moretti and her husband Jacques, along with 15 other people, face various charges including arson, aggravated bodily harm and manslaughter.
The request has drawn a reaction from lawyer Fabrizio Ventimiglia, who represents the family of Sofia Donadio, injured in the fire. He pointed out that the families of the victims and the injured are still awaiting developments in the investigation and compensation for their losses.
The investigation continues, with numerous civil parties involved. A confrontation between Jessica and Jacques Moretti is scheduled for November 2, one of the most anticipated moments of the pre-trial phase.
