The defense firmly rejects the accusations made against entrepreneur Elio Marino and his partner Aizada Chokoeva and has announced its intention to swiftly request a hearing before San Marino’s magistrates in order to present its own account of the events.
Speaking on their behalf is lawyer Mirko Damasco, who is representing the two alongside colleagues Luigi Gualtieri, of the Ravenna bar, and Nicola Maria Tonelli, a San Marino-based lawyer. Marino and Chokoeva are under investigation as part of the probe into Giochi del Titano.
The lawyer urges caution, warning of the risk that the case could turn into a “media pillory” before any responsibility has actually been established.
“We will immediately request a hearing with San Marino’s magistrates, confident that we can clarify every aspect of a case in which, at present, our clients are already being subjected to public judgment in the media, with devastating personal effects and consequences. Trials are held in courtrooms — it must be remembered that the presumption of innocence remains a cornerstone of our judicial system, and this should never be forgotten,” says Damasco.
The defense’s strategy, therefore, is to challenge the accusations and bring before San Marino’s judicial authorities, as soon as possible, the elements deemed useful to clarify the position of the two clients, while calling for caution regarding the accounts that have circulated about the case in the meantime.
