At the Cesena stadium, the thirteen-year-old from San Marino Athletics Academy closed out the Tetrathlon with a new San Marino record for his age category.
On Sunday 27 September, the Cesena stadium hosted the Regional Multi-Event Championship for youth categories. Four events to master in order to gather points for the final standings in the 12-13 age group.
Leon Ceccarelli, representing San Marino Athletics Academy, took part in the Tetrathlon A: 60 metres, high jump, shot put and 600 metres.
He made an immediate impression in the 60 metres, clocking 8.38 seconds. He then picked up valuable points in the high jump with 1.23 metres and in the shot put with 9.31 metres.
For the final event, he lined up determined to climb the standings. He ran the 600 metres building momentum throughout, leaving several rivals behind and finishing in 1:48.84: a new national record for the boys’ category.
“These results don’t happen by chance,” said coach Paola Carinato, who has been working with him for ten years. “Leon has grown up in our youth program in a relaxed way, balancing his training with the interests typical of his age. He’s an athlete who works hard, not just in athletics. He manages to combine sport and school, and today’s results are the proof.”
For Ceccarelli, this marks his second record in just a few months: back in May, he had already rewritten the San Marino tetrathlon record.
