The prospects tied to the free movement of capital and direct taxation will be at the center of a conference organized by the University of San Marino (Università degli Studi della Repubblica di San Marino) to examine the effects of the association agreement between San Marino and the European Union. The event is scheduled for Friday, September 25, from 2pm to 6pm, at the university’s headquarters in the former courthouse, at via Salita alla Rocca 44.
“Academics, institutional leaders, scholars and experts will address the main issues linked to the free movement of capital and direct taxation, in light of the association agreement between San Marino and the European Union,” reads a statement from the San Marino university.
The proceedings will open with remarks from Paolo Pascucci, director of the San Marino Institute of Law (Istituto Giuridico Sammarinese), who will take up the post of rector on October 1, and Marco Gatti, Secretary of State for Finance. This will be followed by an address from Catia Tomasetti, President of the Central Bank of the Republic of San Marino, focused on the institution’s prospects within the new framework of relations with the European Union.
The program will then feature five presentations offering a general overview along with in-depth analysis of the tax consequences for financial operators, the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union, the Italian Court of Cassation and lower courts, anti-money laundering obligations, and global minimum taxation. Speakers will include Andrea Mondini of the University of Bologna, Marco Greggi of the San Marino Institute of Law, Anna Miotto of the University of Ferrara, and doctoral candidates Michela Maisto, of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli,” and Alessandro Casanova, of the University of Ferrara.
“This initiative,” explains Greggi, “adds to a long series of events in which the consequences of the agreement with Brussels have been examined in depth alongside experts from Italy and abroad. The presence at this event of two doctoral students currently visiting San Marino for a study period, which enriches the level of analysis, reflects the appeal of our institute as a center of interest for young Italian scholars.”
The conference involves three areas of the University of San Marino: the advanced training course in European Studies, the master’s program in Managerial Practices in Public Administration, and the San Marino School of Advanced Training for Legal and Economic Professions.
