A serious road accident occurred in the afternoon in the Celle area of Rimini, where a disabled person in a wheelchair was struck by a car while crossing the street on a pedestrian crossing. After receiving first aid at the scene, the injured person was airlifted to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena.
The accident took place at the intersection of Via Emilia and Via Iolanda Cappelli, the road leading to the underpass towards Viserba.
According to an initial reconstruction, which is still being verified, the car, driven by a woman, was travelling from the seaside towards the hills when it apparently turned left onto Via Iolanda Cappelli. Immediately after the turn, the vehicle struck the person in the wheelchair, who was crossing on the pedestrian crossing at that moment.
The impact was extremely violent: the wheelchair was destroyed, with several pieces scattered across the road.
Emergency responders intervened immediately, providing first aid to the injured person and, given the severity of the situation, arranged for transport by helicopter to the trauma center at Bufalini hospital.
Investigations are underway to establish the exact dynamics of the accident and determine any responsibility.
