His underage son waiting in the car while the father allegedly went into the pharmacy to rob it. That is the detail that has emerged from the investigation into a 49-year-old man arrested by the State Police in Rimini, suspected of carrying out several robberies in recent days in the Marecchiese area.
The man, originally from Foggia and residing in the Forlì area, had already come onto the radar of the Mobile Squad following robberies on 24 and 26 August. Investigators tracked him down using camera footage, witness statements and vehicle movements recorded by the Targa System automatic number-plate recognition system.
The breakthrough came on the afternoon of 28 August. Officers located him near another pharmacy where, according to investigators, he was allegedly preparing to carry out a new attack.
When he noticed the police presence, the 49-year-old reportedly tried to drive off. During the subsequent stop he is also said to have resisted officers, who managed to restrain him.
Inside the car, officers found a black toy pistol without the red safety cap, along with some clothing that is now being examined because it is considered consistent with items used in the previous robberies.
While reconstructing one of those earlier episodes, investigators also reportedly discovered that the man’s underage son had been present, left waiting inside the car while his father went into the pharmacy.
The 49-year-old has therefore been arrested on charges of attempted robbery and resisting a public official and taken to Rimini prison. The Prosecutor’s Office is continuing its investigation to determine his possible involvement in the earlier robberies.
