A dramatic accident occurred late Sunday morning along the A14 motorway, between Riccione and Rimini Sud, where a motorcyclist lost his life and a woman was left seriously injured.
The crash happened shortly after 11:30 am, in the direction of Bologna, in the stretch just past the Montefeltro service area. According to initial reconstructions, the BMW GS carrying the man and woman rear-ended a Hyundai in the third lane, amid particularly heavy traffic that had caused tailbacks.
For the motorcyclist, rescue efforts proved futile: despite attempts at resuscitation, he died at the scene. The passenger’s condition was also serious; she was stabilized by emergency medical personnel and then airlifted by helicopter to the Bufalini hospital in Cesena.
Firefighters, highway police and staff from Autostrade per l’Italia responded to the scene of the accident. The carriageway was temporarily closed to allow for rescue operations and investigations, causing tailbacks of around two kilometres on a day already marked by heavy return traffic.
