Cattolica, car plunges into harbour: woman, 40, rescued by fishermen, husband on the run

A car ended up in the waters of Cattolica's harbour, with a woman saved by two fishermen while her husband fled the scene.

A car ended up in the waters of Cattolica’s harbour, a woman was rescued by two fishermen, and her husband fled the scene, disappearing without a trace. This is what happened in the early afternoon of Wednesday, 19 August. Carabinieri are now investigating the incident.

According to initial reconstructions, the 46-year-old man behind the wheel reportedly steered the car deliberately into the water. His wife, a 40-year-old woman, was also in the vehicle. Both are of Albanian origin, and the man is a resident of San Giovanni in Marignano.

The intervention of two fishermen proved decisive: noticing what was happening, they managed to reach the car. Thanks to the tailgate, which had remained open, the 40-year-old woman was pulled from the vehicle and brought to safety.

Her husband, meanwhile, reportedly managed to get out of the car and flee the area. Carabinieri have launched a search to track him down.

Investigators are also looking into the relationship between the couple and certain episodes that occurred in the days prior. The dynamics and circumstances of the incident are still being pieced together.
