San Marino, agreement on economic data boosts cooperation between Central Bank and Statistics Office

Central Bank and National Statistics Office formalize cooperation on economic and financial data, with an eye to EU integration process.

The Central Bank of the Republic of San Marino and the National Statistics Office are strengthening their collaboration on economic and financial data. On 7 August, the two institutions signed a cooperation agreement on statistical matters, formalizing an already existing relationship and aiming to improve coordination in the production and dissemination of statistics of national interest.

The agreement takes on particular significance in light of San Marino’s ongoing integration process with the European Union. Among the areas covered are the balance of payments, the international investment position, and indicators of economic activity.

“The Agreement formalizes and consolidates the collaborative relationship already in place, strengthening coordination in the development, production and dissemination of statistics of national interest, in line with the commitments undertaken by the Republic of San Marino at the national, international and supranational level” — reads the statement.

One of the main objectives concerns the optimization of data exchange through the systematic sharing of information flows, with defined criteria and timelines and forms of mutual assistance. The agreement also aims to improve operational efficiency and encourage the updating of the methodologies used.

On the methodological front, the agreement also provides for the establishment of a Technical Committee for Statistics, made up of representatives from the National Statistics Office and the Central Bank.

“The Agreement confirms the intention to strengthen institutional collaboration in an area of particular importance for the country, helping to make statistical information increasingly complete, timely and integrated,” said the Director of the National Statistics Office.

The Director General of the Central Bank of the Republic of San Marino also stressed the importance of the collaboration: “The synergy now in place enhances the quality of macroeconomic analysis, providing a solid knowledge base for tackling future economic and financial challenges.”

The agreement therefore seeks to consolidate the quality of San Marino’s statistical information, considered a significant element not only for analyzing the country’s economic performance, but also within the framework of the Republic of San Marino’s international relations.
