Forza Italia Rimini has weighed in on the situation of the Rimini-San Marino highway (Superstrada), renewing calls for a comprehensive overhaul of the route and putting forward a series of proposals to be included in the party’s programme ahead of the next administrative term, 2027-2032. At the heart of the plan are traffic flow, the transformation of industrial and commercial areas along the Consolare road, relations with the Republic of San Marino, and connections to the airport, the Gros logistics hub and the motorway.
“We share the criticism voiced in recent days by San Marino residents in the press and on social media over the Rimini-San Marino highway. Twenty-five minutes to cover seven kilometres isn’t traffic flow — it’s a daily nightmare and an environmental disaster,” says Davide Frisoni, secretary of Forza Italia Rimini.
According to the party, the problem has dragged on for years without ever being tackled in a structured way. “This issue has been dealt with in fits and starts for many years now, with very little interest shown on the Rimini side,” Frisoni argues, also directing criticism at regional councillor Roberta Frisoni.
For Forza Italia, it is time to move beyond piecemeal traffic interventions. “What’s needed is a genuine redesign to revive an artery that connects not just two major tourist destinations, but two nations. That calls for serious, competent partners — not slogans,” the statement continues.
Among the priorities listed are roundabouts to replace the current traffic lights, though the proposal is framed within a broader project for the whole area. “Roundabouts are an urgent and essential undertaking. But today what’s needed is a comprehensive rethink of the industrial and commercial functions along the Consolare road to San Marino,” Forza Italia states.
With this in mind, the party is also pushing for closer engagement with the Republic of San Marino. “A renewed and fruitful dialogue with the Republic of San Marino could support the strategic redevelopment of this vast area of real estate. At the same time, resolving the traffic problems — by replacing the dangerous traffic lights with roundabouts — will recreate the ideal conditions to attract new investment,” the statement reads.
Among the proposals floated is the idea of using some of the disused buildings along the road to house AI data centres, powered by advanced geothermal plants, while other properties could be used for energy production and storage.
“This is a technically feasible solution that fully meets EU guidelines on urban regeneration, eliminating the need to consume new agricultural land and allowing our area to tap into significant EU funds and financing,” Forza Italia states.
The plan envisioned by the party also involves the Federico Fellini International Airport. According to the statement, cooperation with San Marino could give rise to “joint planning aimed at strengthening” Rimini’s airport.
Another chapter concerns the Gros logistics hub, in light of the development of air links and the airport’s new cargo area. Forza Italia specifically proposes a direct link to the Rimini Sud toll gate on the A14 motorway.
“An infrastructure of this kind would effectively connect the airport, the Gros hub and the motorway network, without burdening city traffic with the passage of hundreds of heavy vehicles,” the statement concludes, summing up Forza Italia’s approach with the aim of “looking to Rimini’s future by shaping the present intelligently and with foresight.”
