San Marino’s passport ranks 37th in the world in 2026, with a mobility score of 158 and the ability to reach almost 80% of the destinations surveyed through simplified procedures.
Specifically, Sammarinese citizens can enter 102 destinations without a visa, while another 48 offer visa-on-arrival or otherwise streamlined procedures. In eight cases, an electronic authorisation is all that’s required. There are 40 countries, however, for which a visa must be obtained before departure.
The situation is particularly favourable in Europe, where San Marino’s passport guarantees 100% coverage: 44 destinations can be reached without a visa, one through simplified procedures and one with electronic authorisation. None require a visa arranged in advance. Even so, San Marino ranks 35th out of 47 European passports.
Among the most significant destinations, entry into the United States requires electronic authorisation, allowing stays of up to 90 days, while the United Kingdom and Canada permit stays of up to 180 days. The Schengen area, meanwhile, remains accessible without a visa.
The 2026 figures nonetheless mark a decline compared with last year. In 2025, San Marino ranked 32nd in the world with 161 points, whereas this year it drops to 158 points and 37th place. In 2024, it had reached 162 points, placing 35th.
The report also examines the reciprocity of entry rules. Eight countries can access San Marino under simplified arrangements while still requiring a visa from Sammarinese citizens: Brunei, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Tonga, and Trinidad and Tobago.
