A 73-year-old farmer lost his life in the early evening on Tuesday in Montefiore Conca, after being struck by the trailer of a tractor. By the time rescuers arrived, there was nothing more that could be done for the man.
The accident took place in a field near via Gemmano, where, according to initial reports, workers were harvesting olives.
The 73-year-old was walking behind the agricultural vehicle, which was being driven by an operator and maneuvering on a steep slope. While climbing, the tractor is believed to have suddenly rolled backward, causing the trailer to strike the man.
The alarm brought emergency medical services (118) and firefighters to the scene. A doctor confirmed the death of the retiree.
The cause of the vehicle’s sudden reversal has yet to be determined. Carabinieri officers intervened to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the accident.
