A day destined to mark San Marino’s history. Today, Monday 19 October, the Republic will sign the Association Agreement with the European Union in Brussels, bringing to a close a process launched in 2014 and spanning more than a decade.
The official ceremony is scheduled for 1pm at the Berlaymont building, headquarters of the European Commission, where Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari and European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will sign the agreement that will redefine relations between San Marino, Andorra and the European Union.
To allow San Marino’s citizens to follow this milestone as well, the Congress of State has organised a day of celebration open to everyone at the Kursaal Hall in Città, with the ceremony broadcast live on a big screen, a link-up with Palazzo Pubblico, and a convivial gathering.
The doors of the Kursaal will open at midday, welcoming citizens, institutional representatives, political parties, business associations, trade unions and civil society groups from across the country.
At 12.45pm, the live stream from Brussels will begin, broadcast via the channels of the European Commission and San Marino RTV.
The signing of the agreement is scheduled for 1pm, accompanied by remarks from Beccari and Šefčovič and followed by a press conference.
Afterwards, the Captains Regent, Gerardo Giovagnoli and William Casali, will address the public in an official message broadcast live from Palazzo Pubblico.
At 1.30pm, the celebrations will continue with a toast and a small buffet open to all those present.
The signing marks the culmination of the lengthy negotiations launched in 2014 and opens a new chapter in relations between Titano and the European Union, with prospects for greater integration into the European internal market for citizens, young people and businesses alike.
