San Marino defeated Greenland 2-0 to secure a place in the third-place final at the Futsal Week in Poreč. A brace from Chezzi proved decisive, while Protti kept the Titans’ goal safe with a series of crucial saves. Following their opening defeat to Morocco Under-21, Roberto Osimani’s side closed out Group B in second place.
The Titans took the lead thanks to an initiative from Chezzi down the left flank: the forward took on Rosing and shot towards the near post, slipping the ball between goalkeeper Møller-Lund’s legs. Cola was also lurking at the far post, though his touch wasn’t needed to complete the move.
Greenland responded and the match grew increasingly physical, with several hard challenges and chances that forced Protti into action to protect the lead. San Marino held firm and doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half, once again through Chezzi.
The Titan forward stole the ball from Davidsen and broke away, fending off his opponent’s attempt to recover possession as well as pressure from Gundel-Collin, before finishing once more at the near post to make it 2-0.
In the closing stages both sides exhausted their foul allowance, though without conceding any free kicks on goal. Osimani’s players managed the lead comfortably and saw out the match without conceding.
“The match remained very tense throughout,” reads the official FSGC report, which praised the “mature and composed management shown by Osimani’s players.”
Today at 4 pm, San Marino face Switzerland, runners-up in Group A, in the third-place final. The match will be streamed live on the Futsal Week Facebook page. The two national teams had already met in January, during the tournament’s edition held in Albona.
