A tough start for San Marino’s national futsal team, beaten 7-0 by Morocco Under-21 on the opening day of the Futsal Week October Cup, currently underway in Poreč, Croatia.
Roberto Osimani’s side began with a solid approach, managing to contain their opponents thanks in part to the saves of goalkeeper Mattia Protti. Morocco broke the deadlock only in the 17th minute through Iouazzinen, and the first half ended 1-0.
In the second half, however, the North Africans pulled away. Chkairi doubled the lead just a minute into the restart, while San Marino came close to scoring through Elia Pasqualini, whose effort was denied by the crossbar.
Morocco then capitalized on a free kick from the edge of the area to make it 3-0 through Azzakhnini Aouragh. Shortly afterwards, Benbrahim added a fourth, aided by a mistake from Protti outside his own goal.
In the closing stages, the scoreline grew heavier still: Edders, Ahib and El Jarrari completed the 7-0 rout, bringing to an end a match that had only remained close in the first half.
There is no time to dwell on the result for the Titans. San Marino will be back in action already at 6:15 PM to face Greenland in their second match of the tournament.
