An autopsy has been ordered on the body of the 34-year-old man found dead in the parking lot of the Vision Club, in the municipality of Verucchio, on the border with San Marino. The examination is expected to clarify the cause of death and help investigators understand what happened before the man was found lying on the ground. Meanwhile, the Carabinieri are combing through footage from security cameras in the area to reconstruct his movements and gather useful leads for the investigation.
The key issue still to be clarified concerns the injuries to his face. The body was found face down on the asphalt, and the wounds could be consistent with the impact of a fall. However, investigators must determine what caused the fall in the first place — a sudden illness, an accident, or the involvement of another person. At this stage, no hypothesis has been ruled out.
The victim is an Albanian citizen who had recently arrived in Italy and was not a resident of the area. According to initial information gathered by investigators, he was in the process of arranging work as a bricklayer in Italy. Authorities are also looking into where he had been staying and his most recent movements.
The alarm was raised on the evening of Wednesday, October 14, by a person who was retrieving their car from the parking lot. After spotting the man lying on the ground, they alerted a patrol of San Marino law enforcement officers stationed near the border crossing. The officers immediately notified their Italian counterparts and San Marino’s emergency medical service (118). Attempts to resuscitate him proved unsuccessful.
Carabinieri from the Novafeltria company, which has jurisdiction over the area, responded to the scene alongside San Marino’s Gendarmerie. Around 11:30 p.m., investigators from the Rimini Carabinieri’s investigative unit also arrived. A coroner was subsequently called in. Authorities now hope the autopsy and the review of surveillance footage will provide answers about the circumstances surrounding the 34-year-old’s death.
