An annual prize worth €3,000 will be awarded for the best degree thesis or unpublished research work. The Central Bank of the Republic of San Marino (BCSM) has launched the initiative in memory of its colleague Barbara Brignani, who passed away prematurely in 2025, choosing accounting and administration as the theme for the 2026 edition.
The award focuses on the fields that defined her professional career. The judging panel will evaluate submissions based on “originality and degree of innovation”, “methodological rigour and research quality”, “practical relevance in a business context” and “clarity of presentation and consistency of content”.
To take part, applicants must hold San Marino citizenship and/or residency and not have turned 30 by the application deadline. They must also have earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree after 30 June 2025, or have produced a research paper that has not yet been published.
Applications must be submitted by 15 November 2026 to premiobrb@bcsm.sm, with the subject line “Candidatura per il premio Barbara Brignani” (“Application for the Barbara Brignani prize”). Submissions must be accompanied by a summary of no more than one thousand words and a curriculum vitae demonstrating that the required criteria have been met. Applicants will also need to confirm that they have read the privacy notice concerning the processing of personal data related to the prize.
“Documentation will be treated as confidential and will not be returned; the date and time of arrival will be determined by BCSM’s own records,” the Central Bank specifies. The panel, which will make its decisions at its sole discretion, will respond to all applications received.
There is also the possibility that submitted works may be published on the Bank’s website: “works deemed particularly worthy, along with those of the winning candidates from each year, may be published on the Bank’s website in the ‘Collana interventi’ section.”
For further information, applicants may contact the BCSM Human Resources Service at Via del Voltone 120, by writing to risorse.umane@bcsm.sm or calling 0549 981010, extension 2662.
