D-ML files bill for confirmatory referendum on EU agreement

Domani Motus Liberi wants ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU to be subject to a popular vote

Making the ratification of the Association Agreement with the European Union contingent on a confirmatory referendum. That is the proposal from Domani Motus Liberi, which has filed a bill made up of four articles. The news was reported by San Marino RTV.

The text calls for a referendum initiated by the Council, allowing citizens to weigh in directly on the matter.

Party leader Lorenzo Forcellini Reffi is asking that the public be clearly informed of both the advantages and disadvantages of the agreement. Fabio Righi rejects the label of euroscepticism attached to the party, arguing that the call for a referendum has repeatedly come from San Marino citizens themselves.

Mirko Dolcini is urging political forces to clarify their positions and pushes back against what he sees as an attempt to discredit the referendum tool in order to avoid using it.

DML has also criticized how this phase is being managed. Gaetano Troina describes the government’s handling of the matter as improvised, arguing that several public offices are not ready, both in terms of staff numbers and available expertise.

Carlotta Andruccioli, referring back to the latest foreign affairs committee meeting, points out that just days after the signing — and less than three months before the agreement takes effect — the assessment phase is still ongoing.
