Pope Leo XIV set for surgery, Diocese of Rimini: “We accompany him with prayer and affection”

The Diocese of Rimini has invited parishes and the faithful to pray for Pope Leo XIV ahead of his upcoming surgery, recalling his visit to the city last August.

The Diocese of Rimini is inviting parishes and the faithful to pray for Pope Leo XIV ahead of the surgery he is expected to undergo in the coming days, according to a diocesan statement. Bishop Nicolò Anselmi, together with priests, deacons, consecrated men and women, and the entire community, has sent the Pontiff a message of closeness.

“Holy Father, the Church of Rimini wishes to send you its embrace. We treasure in our hearts the joy of meeting you last August, and today we wish to be close to you through the prayer and affection of our entire community. We entrust you to the Lord, invoking serenity and strength for you in this time. May the Virgin Mary accompany and protect you, together with the intercession of the blessed of our land: Alberto Marvelli and Sandra Sabattini. Feel us close to you, Holy Father, in communion and in prayer.”

The message recalls the Pope’s visit to Rimini last August, followed by a meeting on 23 September with a delegation from Rimini present at the audience. “This sentiment accompanies the grateful and vivid memory of Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Rimini last August, a precious occasion of encounter and communion,” the statement reads. The bond was renewed when the Holy Father welcomed and greeted the diocesan delegation, thanking them with words of closeness.

Communities have been asked to dedicate an intention to the Pontiff, especially during the celebration of the Eucharist. A special remembrance will also accompany the diocesan pilgrimage to Loreto on 18 October.

“The Diocese therefore invites parish communities and all the faithful to join in prayer for the Holy Father, entrusting his health and his ministry to the Lord, especially during the celebrations of the Eucharist and with a special remembrance during the diocesan pilgrimage to Loreto on 18 October,” the statement concludes.
