The Youth Olympic Games in Dakar 2026 are drawing closer, set to take place in Senegal from 31 October to 13 November. It will be a historic edition for the Olympic movement, as for the first time an Olympic event will be held on the African continent.
San Marino will take part in the Youth Olympic Games for the fourth time, fielding an all-female delegation made up of two athletes. In swimming, Margherita Gregoroni, born in 2011, will compete in the 100m and 200m freestyle and the 200m individual medley, while in athletics, Greta San Martini, born in 2009, will take to the field in the triple jump. Gregoroni has already represented San Marino at major international events, most recently the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, where she further improved her performances. San Martini, meanwhile, is enjoying a season of steady progress in the triple jump, having already gained international experience at the Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra and the EYOF in Skopje in 2025.
Rounding out the San Marino delegation will be CONS Secretary General Eros Bologna, Head of Mission Lucia Castiglioni, and coaches Luca Corsetti for swimming and Massimo Meca for athletics. Dakar 2026 marks another important international milestone for Team San Marino, and for the two young athletes it offers a valuable opportunity to measure themselves against the best talents of their generation.
