Giochi del Titano: director placed under house arrest, probe also hits deputy and three staff over alleged money laundering topping €7m

The general director of Giochi del Titano, Salvatore Caronia, has been placed under house arrest, with the investigation also implicating his deputy and three employees.

The charges reportedly involve money laundering and self-laundering, for a sum exceeding €7 million.

The operation led to searches and seizures at the state-owned company that runs the Rovereta gaming hall. According to this morning’s report by the San Marino daily L’Informazione, computer devices, mobile phones and slot machines are said to have been seized.

According to information gathered by Insider, the Gendarmerie (Guardia di Rocca) is believed to have acted on an international letters rogatory: if confirmed, this would mean the request to intervene came from a foreign judicial authority.

At the root of the inquiries would be a win considered suspicious. The Rovereta hall, according to the same reports, is said to be closed to the public.

It remains to be clarified what role is attributed to each of the five people involved and how the figure of over €7 million was arrived at.

The significance of the case lies in the numbers involved.

Giochi del Titano is among the most profitable state-owned companies: in 2025 it recorded revenues of over €31.5 million and a net profit of around €8.5 million. The State became its sole owner after buying out, in instalments, the 24 percent stake previously held by the Chamber of Commerce, a deal worth around €8 million due to be finalized in 2027. Caronia has headed the gaming hall since 2009.

The investigation is at an early stage: all those involved are presumed innocent until a final verdict is reached. Insider remains available to those concerned for replies and clarifications.
