She was just 15 years old and was supposed to leave Italy to move to Bangladesh, where her father was arranging a marriage for her. The family situation in Rimini culminated in the girl’s dramatic suicide attempt, after she ingested insecticide.
Following the incident, the Carabinieri of Morciano launched an investigation that led to the arrest of the girl’s father, a 53-year-old man of Bangladeshi origin, on charges of family mistreatment. According to reconstructions, the abuse within the family had reportedly been going on for some time and also involved the wife and the couple’s other children.
The 53-year-old had already been investigated in the past for similar incidents. In recent months, he had reportedly begun the necessary arrangements to take the teenager to Bangladesh for the arranged marriage.
