SAN MARINO – First define what healthcare and social-healthcare model to build for the coming years, then tackle decisions on the future hospital and the tools needed to build it. This is the position expressed by the Party of Socialists and Democrats (PSD), which has entered the debate on healthcare and social security in San Marino following discussions held during the Festa dell’Amicizia (Friendship Festival).
“From the Festa dell’Amicizia, a fair question emerges: what kind of healthcare do we want for the future?” This is the question posed by the PSD, which is calling for a broader discussion on the model the Republic intends to adopt in the coming years.
According to the party, the process should involve political forces, the Social Security Institute (Istituto per la Sicurezza Sociale, ISS), healthcare professionals, trade unions and other interested parties, in order to identify the objectives and characteristics of the healthcare and social-healthcare system before making subsequent structural decisions.
“The PSD is joining the debate on the future of healthcare and social security in San Marino, proposing the opening of a broad discussion on the model to be built in the coming years, involving political forces, the ISS, professionals, trade unions and interested parties,” the party’s statement reads.
The issue is also directly linked to the project for San Marino’s future hospital. For the PSD, the choice regarding the new facility should come as a subsequent step, following the definition of the needs and overall organization of San Marino’s healthcare system.
“Only after defining the healthcare and social-healthcare model will it be possible to knowledgeably address the choices regarding the future hospital and the tools needed to build it,” the PSD concludes.
