There were tense moments on the morning of Tuesday, 25 August at the Torraccia airfield, where an aircraft was involved in an accident during landing. The plane reportedly came in long and ended up off the runway. Two people were on board, a pilot and an instructor, who fortunately are not believed to have suffered serious injuries.
According to initial reports, the aircraft was a Tecnam P2008, a two-seat single-engine plane belonging to the Eagles Aviation Academy of Fano flight school.
The incident reportedly occurred as the plane was returning to the Sammarinese airfield. For reasons that have yet to be clarified, the aircraft apparently failed to complete the landing phase properly, overshooting the intended area and coming to a stop off the runway.
Emergency services responded immediately. An ambulance and civil police officers arrived at Torraccia, and an investigation has since been launched to reconstruct exactly what happened and check the condition of the aircraft.
Initial reports on the two people on board are reassuring: neither the pilot nor the instructor is believed to be in danger, and both appear to have avoided serious injury.
What caused the plane to run off the runway remains to be determined. At the time of the accident, according to some witnesses, strong winds were blowing in the area, on a day also marked by a yellow weather alert. Investigations will establish whether weather conditions played a role in the incident.
The civil police are carrying out the necessary checks to precisely reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and clarify any possible causes.
