Rimini, probe into paternity of two children: army officer under investigation

A warrant officer in the Carabinieri is accused of falsely registering her children's paternity after an alleged affair with her commanding officer.

Two births, in 2023 and 2025, are at the centre of an investigation by the Rimini Prosecutor’s Office, which has placed a Carabinieri warrant officer under investigation for alleged falsification of civil status records.

As reported by RiminiToday, the woman, who was serving in Rimini at the time and married to another Carabinieri officer, is alleged to have had an affair with a superior officer – her former station commander.

According to the prosecution, despite knowing that the children might not be her husband’s biological offspring, she allegedly registered him as the father of both, leading him to believe he was their natural parent.

The charges relate to statements made when registering the births in Rimini. The woman is the only person under investigation and is represented by lawyer Maurizio Bortolotto.

In recent weeks, investigators from the Carabinieri’s investigative unit in Turin carried out searches of the service accommodation and barracks where the warrant officer and her former commander are currently stationed.

Acting on behalf of the Rimini Prosecutor’s Office, in an investigation coordinated by public prosecutor Davide Ercolani, phones and computers were seized.

Forensic analysis of the devices will help reconstruct the relationships and communications between those involved, and establish what the woman knew about the children’s paternity.
